For such a small coastal community Sawtell boasts a wonderful 18 hole golfing layout. Play golf on Sawtell’s picturesque course complete with a combination of flat and undulating fairways. From all our visit’s here we have always been greeted by friendly staff, lush green conditions an extremely well manicured golf course.
The holes near and around the large clubhouse are mostly undulating while the remaining flatter holes meander around photogenic watercourses. Most greens are larger than your average country golf course and are equally as in good condition as the fairways.
Our favourite hole to play at Sawtell is the 352 metre par four 10th. The gentle downhill fairway has a slight “S” shape to it. First curving to the right, narrowing, and then curving left closer to the green. This make for an interesting club selection of the tee. The longer hitters can get quite close to the green with the driver but there are trees and water closer the the green on the left. Most average length golfers however will find the second shot to the green a little challenging as a draw shot is normally required from the fairway. The green itself has plenty of depth and is guarded by a bunker on either side. The play here is to land on the front section of green for an easier putt. Overall quite a challenging hole with a par or better here being very rewarding.
