The recently renovated Aquarius on the Beach Townsville is our number one choice for a stay and play visit to Rowes Bay Golf Course. The golf course itself is on the northern side of the city so staying on The Strand esplanade makes perfect sense. Rowes Bay is less than 10 minutes drive away.
Expansive views across Townsville’s beachfront over to Magnetic Island will impress. The rooms, though not overly large, are excellently well designed to take in the majestic views.
The updated contemporary furnishings are a bonus here. The beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchettes and well designed. Rooms types here range from Standard Rooms, on levels 1-10, to Executive Rooms on levels 11-13. There are also Executive Corner Suites that are slightly larger for a more comfortable stay.

The 18 hole Rowes Bay Golf Course in Townville is a pleasure to play. Fairways meander around scenic waterways and the greens are very well maintained. Rowes Bay club also has a 9 hole par 3 course suitable for a quick round or practice your short game.
The main golf course has quite a variety of interesting holes. Among them is the par 3 9th hole. At 138 metres everyone has a chance of birdie here. But the green has Out Of Bounds over the back and to the right, bunkers left and right, and water at the front, a par here is a great result. Best to play a tee shot to the centre of this green no matter where the flag is located.
On the back 9 the par 4 12th hole is a cracker. The ultimate risk / reward tee shot awaits every player. The fairway has a dogleg to the right. You have the choice to play a tee shot short of the water and avoid the trees or risk a long drive over the water and trees to be rewarded with a short iron to the green. This smallish green is surrounded by water so playing a short iron approach shot is very advantageous.
Note – there is at least one resident crocodile on the course. This crocodile has been here for a number of years and is still growing. Before playing golf be sure to check with the pro shop for updates and advice.
