The newly redeveloped Lonsdale Links has made its mark in the golfing world with a top 20 ranking in Australia’s best golf courses. This Point Lonsdale golf course is quite spectacular with lovely views and golfing obstacles that are a pure delight. Many of the greens here are unusually square shaped which adds to the enjoyment of playing golf with a modern take of a nostalgic golf course design.
One of GolfAway’s favourite holes to play at Lonsdale Links is the short par four 16th hole. At just 275 metres from the back tee this design was most certainly inspired by ‘The Road Hole’ on the Old Course at St Andrews. Even the shortest chip shot onto the green needs to be precise to avoid the out of bounds fence on the edge of the green and the small but deep sink hole like bunker to the right of the green. A par or better here will make you smile like a British Open champion!
