Play golf at Muswellbrook in the upper Hunter Valley just 1hr 40mins drive north-west from Newcastle. Well known for its vineyards, the Hunter Valley is also home to some splendid golf courses including Muswellbrook.
The charming Muswellbrook golf course is located just a short walk from the centre of town. Featuring well kept tree lined fairways and Muscle Creek winding its way through the course, the layout is mostly flat other than the undulations on the banks of the creek. Muswellbrook’s 6104 metre long golf course has the slightly unusual combination of five par 5’s and five par 3’s. All the remaining holes are par 4’s.
GolfAway, in all our wisdom, has selected the 171 metre par three 8th as Muswellbrook’s signature hole. Standing on the tee it’s easy to see why it is rated as the hardest hole on the course. The narrow green is cut into a large bank sloping left to right that runs down to Muscle Creek. There are steep runoffs both front and back of the green, three small bunkers to the left, a larger bunker to the right and a rather large and magnificent looking weeping willow tree to the right. Land on the green and it’s seems a rather easy hole to play. Miss the green and you may need all your fingers and toes to add up a massive score. This is a brilliant par three.
