The Mackay Golf Course has long been held in high regard and one of the premier regional courses in the whole of Queensland. Each time we visit we are always welcomed by the friendly locals who enjoy this extremely well maintained 18 hole layout.
In near perfect condition all year round there is no better place to enjoy sunny Queensland than playing golf at Mackay. There is a great variety of holes here with tee boxes to suit the most gifted golfer or the not so talented. Slight fairway undulations, waterways and tropical flora are all a bonus here at Mackay Golf Club.
There are many candidates for Mackay’s signature hole but we here at GolfAway choose the short 123 metre par three 17th hole. This hole normally plays into the wind and makes club selection from the tee absolutely vital. There is a visually intimidating water carry but this will only catch severely mishit tee shots. The green itself is large and long but quite narrow across at the front half. Bunkers guard left, right and at the front. When the wind is up the play here is to ignore the pin position and aim for the centre of the green.
