“Play golf among the towering palms in Townsville”
Townsville Golf Course is such a pleasure to play. Many greens here a wonderful backdrop of majestic palm trees which are a real highlight. This golf course can be challenging but is also very enjoyable for the higher handicap players. The greens very good all year round and are large enough to receive approach shots.
The layout has the first nine holes running around the middle of the property and the second nine running around the outside. The original course was opened on this site in 1924. A few years ago some of the course was rerouted and upgraded. You can still see the difference between the older and the newer holes especially with the greens surround. Now the the newer holes are much more established and playing all 18 holes seams to flow very well.
There are some great golfing holes here at Townsville Golf Course. The par 5 4th hole is one of them. A great tee shot here is the key. It is a risk reward tee shot that sees the longer water carry rewarded. The fairway curves to the right around the water and if you are brave enough to risk loosing your ball you will be able to reach the green in two shots.
The par 3 10th hole is a great looking hole to play. Looking from the tee the hole seems simple enough but there are some things to avoid. Firstly the player needs to carry the water and also avoid the water on the right. There is also two bunkers on the left so it’s best to aim for the centre of this green. A par here is a very good score.
