“Play links style golf at The Sands Torquay – one of Victoria’s finest courses.”
Masterly designed by Stuart Appleby, The Sands Torquay golf course is beautifully presented and provides an enjoyable challenge for any level of golfer. Built close to the ocean on naturally undulating sand dunes this golf course drains very well in wet conditions.
The natural elements play a big part in how you play golf at The Sands Torquay with the changeable weather providing some extra thoughts on shot selection. The front nine meanders through urban development while the expansive back nine takes you on a journey through Victoria’s naturally beautiful coastal environment.
Although there are many spectacular and worthy choices on the scenic back nine, all of us here at GolfAway agree that The Sands Torquay signature hole is the 310 metre par four 8th. This unassuming golfing hole is extremely well designed and presents an opportunity to score well for golfers of all levels. Alternatively, one can also rack up are rather large score here.
From the tee there are a string of bunkers down the left and to the right is water all the way to the green. The further you hit your drive the narrower the fairway becomes make club selection critical. Your approach shot could range from a short pitch to a mid iron depending on what you decided to hit off the tee. The rather large green has a ridge down it’s spine which slopes to the right towards the water. Pin placement can have a large bearing on how the 8th plays making it a marvellously interesting hole each time you play it.
