“Experience 27 holes of pure golfing pleasure when you play Nelson Bay.”

Set on an enormous 125 acre parcel of pristine bushland close to the coast the outstanding Nelson Bay Golf Course is playable all year round thanks to well draining sandy soils. The wonderfully designed 27 holes is divided into three 18 hole layouts named Gymea Lily (Holes 1-18), Brush Box (Holes 1-9 & 19-27) and Christmas Bush (Holes 19-27). All three layouts are equally enjoyable with most holes being isolated from each other by the lush natural vegetation.

The well kept fairways follow the naturally undulating terrain and provide a wide range of lie angles that makes club selection crucial. There are mostly generous landing areas for tee shots and the courses in general are not heavily bunkered which makes for very enjoyable golf. The greens are a highlight at Nelson Bay. Large enough to provide a good target for approach shots but the subtle slopes make putting a pleasurable challenge for all levels of golfers.

With 27 holes there are many candidates for the signature hole at Nelson Bay Golf Course. Our choice here at GolfAway is 358 metre par four 13th hole. After you scale the steps to reach the elevated tee you are met with a majestic fairway sloping downhill and curving to the right. This is a heavily forested area and the strip of grass below looks like a narrow golfing oasis of green. The longer golfers will find water at around 240+ metres with most players trying to shape their tee shots left to right around the dogleg to get a shorter approach shot. The green itself is long and somewhat narrow with a bunker either side. A birdie here is very possible but this beautiful hole has the potential for some very high scores.
